The month of April is notorious for crazy weather.  This year has been a prime example with it being cloudy and cold one day, warm and sunny the next.  Apparently it’s the same story across the pond in the United Kingdom, where McDonald’s launched a new digital billboard campaign using their menu items.

The billboards use McDonald’s food icons to show the daily weather…an unwrapped burger represents the sun, while an upside down fry pack indicates rain.  The billboard campaign isn’t just for fun, it does actually use real time data to show the unpredictable weather patterns.  Eight items are used to represent various conditions, including coffee and an ice cream cone.  A single french fry was turned into a temperature gauge.  Chicken nuggets are also used, but if the fries represent the rain, not sure what those would indicate, so I would stay indoors the day that icon is present.

The campaign is running nationwide in the UK.  Hannah Pain is a Senior Brand Manager for McDonald’s.  Regarding the campaign, she says, “We are very excited to be using some of our most loved products to join in the very topical April weather conversation.”

The campaign was planned and booked by OMD and Talon, produced by Grand Visual.

No word on whether the campaign will come to this side of the pond, although we all know it would be quite relevant and hit home here in Atlanta as well!
