If you’re not familiar with the title, Smile 2 is the sequel to the movie Smile, which is a blend of psychological and supernatural horror.

The sequel is much the same, and you can tell that with a single glance at the billboard advertising the film’s theatrical release.  The film’s title, with the number two both in front of and behind the word “Smile” would draw the eye if there was nothing else occupying the rest of the space, but that’s just not the case.

We get a shot of our main character with an angry red slash beginning at her temple and zig zagging diagonally across her face and down her neck, which would be a gruesome detail in its own right, except it is overshadowed by the red gash in the shape of a crude smile where her mouth and cheeks should be.

The image is both revolting and mesmerizing.  Even if you want to look away (and many people do), you can’t.  The imagery draws you in, and even if you’re not a fan of horror, you can’t help but be at least a little curious.

Granted, artistic talent has a lot to do with it, but honestly, a big part is simply the creative use of static 3d effects on the 2d surface.  People who can do that well can create evocative images that get talked about as easily as breathing, and when you pair that kind of imagery with your product or service, magic happens.

If you’re interested in working that kind of magic over the course of your next ad campaign, we can help.  Our talented advertising professionals have decades of experience, and we’d love to put that experience to work for you.  Give us a call today at 404-671-9490, and let’s make your next campaign unforgettable!
