If you’re looking for a fun, clever way to get the attention of your potential customers with your next billboard ad campaign, you could do a lot worse than borrowing an idea from a recent StreetEasy campaign.
If you’re not aware, StreetEasy is a real estate website based in New York City. Its main purpose and function is to provide residents of the city with up to the minute information about homes and apartments listed for rent or sale in the five boroughs.
In a bid to expand brand awareness, the company recently launched an ad campaign centered on the city’s subway lines, and the ads have been wildly effective.
Broadly speaking, they fall into two categories: Lists and…let’s call them clever Venn Diagrams.
The lists include things the phrase “I would give up…”
Followed by things like:
- Dishwasher
- Loft
- Washer/ Dryer
- Doorman
- Gym
- Outdoor Space
- Fireplace
- Elevator
- Laundry in Buildings
- Furnished
- Pets Allowed
- Storage Available
- Green Building
- Swimming Pool
- Garage Parking
- Parking Available
- And Smoke Free
Followed by the rest of the sentence, which is, “to not have roommates.”
It’s funny, but it’s also a compelling design. How many of those would you be willing to give up to not have a roommate? In NYC’s expensive, incredibly competitive real estate market, questions like that really resonate.
On the other side of the coin, the group relies on ads that show parts of the Five Boroughs, Venn Diagram-style, so for instance, a portion of the city might be highlighted in green with the phrase “Far Enough From My Coworkers.”
This is paired with another section of the city highlighted in blue with the phrase “Walking Distance to Work.”
In the middle, there’s a smaller area of overlap, which is labelled “Find your Place.” Again, fun, funny, relatable, and a simple design that resonated with the audience it was intended for. You can’t get much better when it comes to advertising!
