Show, don’t tell.

That’s a common bit of advertising advice that almost everyone has heard before.  Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done sometimes, and for that reason, anytime we run across an excellent example of that advice in action, it’s well worth highlighting it.

That’s why we were so thrilled to see the recent ad campaign by LEGO.  Other than the brand logo with the word “Imaginz” beneath it, there are no words.  There’s no complicated message.  In fact, the billboard is almost entirely blue, representing sky, and white, with giant LEGOs being used to create clouds floating lazily through the billboard sky.

It’s such a simple design that it nearly took our breath away with its effectiveness.  Seldom have we seen a clearer, more striking example of “show, don’t tell.”

Almost everyone who sees these wonderful billboards can remember back to a time in their childhood when they played with LEGOs.  Almost everyone is familiar with that sense of magic, wonder and endless possibilities that those toys in particular give the children playing with them, and let’s be honest:  That’s a great feeling.

The ad doesn’t need words to convey the sense of magic that LEGOs offer, and we’re pretty sure that any adult who sees the ad will at least give a passing through to buying a set of LEGOs for their kids.  That’s lightning in a bottle.  That’s the very best kind of advertising magic, and people are still sharing pictures of the “Imaginz” billboard across social media.

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to tap into that kind of advertising magic for your next ad campaign?  We can help you do exactly that.  Just give our office a call at 770-391-8528 and let’s talk about the possibilities.
