A hidden gem in Atlanta is in its inaugural year at its new location…The Piedmont School of Atlanta has moved from its North Druid Hills location to Oglethorpe University campus in Brookhaven. Piedmont’s head of school, Dr. Catherine Trapani, says “The Piedmont School is thrilled to move to the Oglethorpe campus and the beautiful learning environment it will provide our students. I envision Oglethorpe students serving as role models to the children of Piedmont School, inspiring academic achievement and commitment to education.”
Oglethorpe President Larry Schall echoes Trapani’s sentiment about the move. Schall says, “We are excited to welcome The Piedmont School to our campus. This partnership offers volunteer and internship opportunities for our students which in turn will benefit The Piedmont School.”
Both schools have been looking forward to the partnership, but they are no strangers to each other. Even at their previous location, the schools had partnered to provide internships for Oglethorpe students. Several Psychology and Communications majors interned there…even helped to launch and staff the after school program at The Piedmont School.
The Piedmont School teaches children high achieving children with autism and other social/learning challenges from PreK through 9th grade level. The school’s website describes their environment as an “active, project based collaborative learning that requires children to use problem solving and social skills; preparing them for higher education and the 21st century workplace.”
Curriculum at The Piedmont School focuses on academic, social, vocational, and life skills preparing students to recognize and assume their responsibilities to themselves and their communities. They use active, project based collaborative learning that requires children to use problem solving and social skills, preparing them for higher education and the 21st century workplace.
The Piedmont School is now accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year.
