The Netflix Billboard Campaign
The ad itself is simple enough. The left hand corner of the space contains the iconic Netflix “N” and the rest of the billboard real estate is dominated by what looks like one of those old school signs you see in mom and pop gas station parking lots with changeable letters (called marquee boards).
The message on that reads: “Don’t give up on your dreams. We started with DVDs”
It’s simple, memorable and has sparked a nostalgic conversation across a variety of social media channels.
If Blockbuster video still existed, they could no doubt get even more mileage out of this concept, but it’s absolutely true that Netflix really did start out mailing DVDs to their subscribers, and honestly, that’s kind of a cool history for a streaming service.
