
Canva is probably not a company that leaps immediately to mind when it comes to billboard advertising, but as they demonstrated last year, they know what they’re doing.
If you’re not familiar, the company is known for its immensely capable, user friendly online design suite. Canva, in the right hands, can turn just about any idea into a pitch deck, slide show, eBook, business card, or pretty much anything else you can imagine.
This ad, displayed near Waterloo Station, offers a wink and a knowing nod to anyone who has ever had a job doing graphic design. “When ‘make the logo bigger’ goes a bit too far, indeed. It’s funny because every designer has been put in a position just like the one the ad shows, with the logo extending far beyond the normal real estate of the billboard proper.
It’s funny (especially if you’re a designer or a social media manager) and it’s eye catching, and gets its target audience talking– that’s a solid win by any reckoning in today’s advertising landscape.
The great thing about the strategy they employed here is that it’s pretty easy to copy and paste it to almost any business in almost any industry.
