Thermo Scanning Billboard

Interaction with a billboard seems to be a thing of the future…but everyday, companies are coming up with new ways to make it a reality.  Theraflu is at the center of a first-of-its-kind interactive billboard technology with a thermal detecting billboard designed to detect a fever before the person even feels sick!  The billboard, dubbed the Theraflu Thermoscanner, made its debut during the peak of flu season in Warsaw, Poland.  The billboard uses a live, real time, thermo scanning camera, with the idea of having a fast and effective tool that can detect a fever, one of the first signs of the flu, faster than ever.

The billboard’s built in camera scans a person’s body, then shows an image of the thermal scan and allows the user to share the photo.  A selfie, for the user to share as he or she pleases, maybe to share with a boss as an excuse for missing work.

This Theraflu ad was designed by two divisions of the same ad agency, Saatchi & Saatchi.  Their offices in Poland and Switzerland joined forces to create the campaign.

Saatchi & Saatchi’s Global Chief Creative Officer for GlaxoSmithKline brands, the maker of Theraflu, is Jason Romeyko. He says this campaign “fits right into GSK’s commitment to transforming their properties into Fast Moving Consumer Health Brands.” He says, “This outdoor ad is a wonderful mash-up of technology, health, real life application and consumer engagement.  It fires up a new set of innovative ideas we can bring to life in healthcare and wellness.”

Despite nearing the end of flu season here in Atlanta, it would still be cool to see some interactive billboards come to this area…maybe by the time flu season rolls around next year, the campaign will be more widespread and we can get scanned for a fever on an Atlanta billboard.
