Almost everyone, everywhere, has heard of Adidas. The brand is one of just a handful that has a truly global reach.
That, however, is both a blessing and a curse. After all, once you have attained such lofty heights, the bottom is a very long way down and if you stumble, you’ve got a great distance to fall.
It’s also hard to keep coming up with killer ad campaigns that keep you in your enviable position, but as a recent ad campaign demonstrates, Adidas has still got it. Just look at some of these images.
Giants the size of high-rise apartments, all wearing the iconic shoes, but there’s something more at work here. Something subtle.
See the word “future?”
The eye is immediately drawn to it in the top right corner, boldly crossed out with three lines — a subtle nod to Adidas’ iconic stripes, suggesting that the future isn’t coming, it’s already here — and it’s with Adidas.
It’s a powerful, evocative image, and with the shoes slightly closer to the camera than the rest of the figures in these ad variants, the message is rammed home with surprising force.
It’s a hard thing to straddle the line between somewhat subtle and in your face, but this new ad campaign does it and does it in style.
Granted, not everyone is in Adidas’ position, but almost every business can position itself as future forward and adopt a similar stance, and if done correctly, it can be wildly successful.
