One of the most inventive billboard advertising ideas in recent history comes to us from the Brazilian advertising firm BETC/Havas.

The particular campaign we’re talking about was one designed to draw attention to a new television show airing on Fox called “The Passage.”

The show only lasted a single season and has since been cancelled, but not for lack of trying on the part of the amazing advertising team.

The advertisers actually developed a special paint that begins to burn when exposed to the sun’s rays.  If you’re advertising a show about vampires, what better way to do it than to have the image of your vampire literally start burning before a viewer’s eyes when the sun comes up?  Talk about attention getting!

We’ve seen other applications of the basic concept before.  Another agency was advertising in support of the protection of abused children and depending on the angle of viewing, you’d either see a child with or without bruises on his face.

Cunning use of visual tricks, especially when combined with new technologies, like paint that catches fire when exposed to the sun’s rays, can elevate even a fairly mundane ad campaign to the next level, transforming it into something special indeed, which is exactly what happened here, and of interest, the conversation about the incredibly ad campaign outlived the show itself!

This is the kind of outside the box thinking our team excels at, so if you’re struggling to come up with the next big idea to help shine the spotlight on whatever product or service your company offers, we can help with that.
