Reusing and recycling materials and containers is high priority for many companies in this day and age…but one company has come up with a pretty unique idea. The Noosa Yoghurt company used tops from their yoghurt containers to create the Colorado state flag on a billboard. It took 6,000 lids, pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle, to create the image.
The purpose of the campaign is to reassure Noosa’s fan base that despite being acquired by a private equity firm, they are still committed to producing the same product of the same quality as always. Often when mom and pop operations like this are acquired, customers fear changes to the product or operations. The company hopes to put these fears to rest by paying tribute to the state of Colorado, in the form of a state flag.
It was no easy task to accomplish…assembly was done in several steps. The design was drawn by hand on wooden sections, then it was hand painted so that each part of the flag matched the colors on the lids. After attaching the lids, those were also painted with a varnish to protect the colors from the sun. All assembly was done off site, then transported to Outfront Media to be placed on their actual billboard structure. No simple vinyl here…several layers account for this unique design.
The billboard is located in Downtown Denver, near Coors Field. Despite a few tweets from passersby, it seems the hard work that went into the campaign has gone largely unnoticed. The design has not made national news, but was featured in the Denver Post.
Maybe we can get an Atlanta based company to do a similar campaign on an Atlanta billboard…a billboard made of Coca Cola bottles? Chick-fil-a cups? The cows might not like that one…
