There are tons of billboard worldwide that grab our attention for good or bad reasons, and then there are those that we completely miss but why? Surprisingly, there is a rhyme and reason to creating an effective billboard design. So here is a list of our tips to remember when creating an effective billboard design.
Number 3. Be Intentional
Design your billboard art with an intentional message that targets your customer base. This begins with knowing the purpose of the advertising campaign. Do you want to bring brand awareness, direct customers to your front door, or keep them updated on events? All these great questions help shape the message that goes on the billboard.
Number 2. Be Memorable
Repetition is one of the greatest ways for your billboard ad to be remembered along with the creative messaging. A saying we have at the office is “7 words or less is the best”. Providing a short message that people will remember will stick better than cluttering the billboard. Drivers only have a few seconds to actually read the billboard when driving by, so giving them less to read helps stick in their memory.
Number 1. Be Present
Discovering a location to reach your target audience is key to a successful billboard campaign. This provides you with the most bang for your buck. It’s like when a hunter wants to hunt deer he goes to the woods but when he wants to catch a fish he goes to a body of water, why is this? Because those are the natural habitats of those creatures. The same is for billboards. Are your customers traveling on the highway or are they traveling through the city or through back roads? All this is important, if not the most important, when reaching customers through billboard advertising.
